[Weekly King CTWANT] The Taiwan Circuit Association (TPCA) pointed out today (12th) that the total output value of Taiwanese circuit boards at home and abroad in the third quarter of 2024 reached NT$227.1 billion, an annual increase of 9.6% and a quarterly increase of 19.0%. Looking forward to the fourth quarter, affected by the lower than expected sales of Apple mobile phones and the uncertainty of the international situation, the market has a strong wait-and-see sentiment. Terminals and downstream companies still tend to be conservative in stocking up, and the overall growth momentum is limited. However, the total output value in 2024 is still expected to reach NT$808.3 billion, an increase of 5.0% from last year.

According to TPCA analysis, in the third quarter of 2024, the size of the Taiwanese PCB application market is mainly distributed in communications (37.0%), computers (21.8%), semiconductors (17.7%), automobiles (11.4%), consumer electronics (8.0%) and Others (4.1%). Among them, the growth of semiconductors is the most prominent, driven by the demand for AI chips and high-bandwidth memory HBM.

In addition, TPCA further stated that the output value of communication products continues to grow due to the demand for network communication products extended by low-orbit satellites and AI servers. Although PC market sales were lower than expected, demand for AI servers and general servers supported the growth of the output value of the computer application category. Affected by the rapid restocking of inventories in the past two years, coupled with weakening demand and base period effects, the automobile industry's growth momentum has weakened quarter by quarter. At the same time, consumer spending has not yet grown significantly, causing the performance of consumer products to remain sluggish.

In terms of PCB products, TPCA believes that multilayer boards (30.1%), flexible boards (24.3%), HDI boards (19.6%), and IC carrier boards (17.7%) account for a large proportion. Among them, demand for IC substrates remains strong. HDI boards are driven by demand for servers, high-frequency applications ADAS and low-orbit satellites, and are also showing good growth. Multi-layer boards still use AI as the main growth engine, as well as the network communication products required for extended infrastructure. Due to the upgrade of the architecture or the increase in usage, the specifications and demand have increased. In comparison, the performance of soft boards was relatively weak.

Looking forward to the fourth quarter, TPCA said that due to the lower than expected sales of Apple mobile phones and the uncertainty of the international situation, the market has a strong wait-and-see sentiment. Terminals and downstream stockings still tend to be conservative, and the overall growth momentum is limited. It is expected that in the fourth quarter, Taiwan The global output value of businesses will reach NT$209 billion, a slight decline of 1.2% from the same period last year; however, the total output value in 2024 is still expected to reach NT$808.3 billion, a 5% increase from last year.
