Plasma Applications on Algriculture

I. Plasma-Activated Water (PAW)
PAW serves as a sustainable, chemical-free fertilizer and sterilizer enriched with reactive species, remarkably stimulating plant development.
Applying 30-minute plasma-activated water to tomato plants not only doubled their leaf chlorophyll levels but also significantly increased the overall plant wet weight by 61% over the control group.

II. Seed Treatment
Cold plasma physically modifies seed coats to enhance wettability, break dormancy, and improve early seedling vigor.
Plasma treatment doubled cotton seed germination rates in cold tests. For soybeans, it increased fresh nodule biomass by 72% and boosted nitrogenase activity by 1.6-fold.

III. Post-Harvest Preservation
Cold plasma offers a rapid, non-destructive decontamination solution for harvested crops, extending shelf-life without chemical residues.
Cold plasma and activated water extend the vase life of cut flowers. In-package plasma treatment of strawberries reduced aerobic bacteria and mold by ~3 log cycles. For fresh-cut melons, Lactobacilli decreased by up to 7 logs.

IV. Enhanced Extraction of Essential Oils
Plasma pre-treatment structurally alters plant epidermal tissues, allowing better solvent penetration to efficiently release internal cellular compounds.
Cold plasma treatment increased lemon peel essential oil yields by an impressive 149.34% compared to microwave extraction. Lemon verbena essential oil content rapidly increased by 36.7% within just one minute of treatment.
