According to statistics from the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI), global silicon wafer shipments continued to increase in the third quarter, reaching 3.214 billion square inches, a quarterly increase of 5.9%, an annual increase of 6.8%, and a five-quarter high. SEMI said that silicon wafer shipments in the third quarter continued the upward trend that began in the second quarter, reaching 3.214 billion square inches, a new high since the third quarter of 2023.
SEMI pointed out that the overall supply chain inventory level has declined, but the overall level is still at a high level. Observing that demand for advanced silicon wafers for artificial intelligence continues to be strong, demand for silicon wafers for automotive and industrial applications remains weak, and demand for mobile phones and other consumer products has improved in some areas.
SEMI expects that silicon wafer shipments may continue its upward trend in 2025, but total shipments have not yet returned to the peak in 2022.
Taiwan's leading silicon wafer factory Global Wafer's third-quarter revenue reached NT$15.87 billion, a quarterly increase of 3.6%. It is expected that fourth-quarter revenue should maintain a quarter-to-quarter upward trend, and revenue in 2025 is expected to be better than this year.
