Liu Jingqing, Chairman of the National Development Council, said on the 8th that among the major applications of the new ten major constructions of AI, silicon photonics technology is expected to reach its peak in 2027. Taiwan is the first to export silicon photonics packaging technology. With the advantages of technology, patents and customers, it can at least allow Taiwan's packaging industry to lead by 10 to 20 years and enhance the resilience of the semiconductor industry.
Liu Jingqing and Wu Chengwen, Chairman of the National Science Council, were interviewed by the "Digital Taiwan" program on the 8th. Regarding the new ten major construction plans of AI (artificial intelligence), Liu Jingqing said that it is mainly divided into 4 infrastructure, 3 technical constructions and related major applications.
Liu Jingqing explained the application part, first of all, the "platform software industry", which the National Development Council estimates will reach a trillion-yuan scale in the future; he gave an example that Foxconn will build a smart city in Kaohsiung, which will be a platform industry, and will also invest heavily in the future.
In addition, it is to promote the application of AI in millions of industries. Liu Jingqing said that the plan is to allow millions of companies to introduce AI technology, so that companies can transform and upgrade, and create new trillion-dollar industries. And the national smart life circle, so that AI can solve various solutions and technologies, and also hope to solve the problem of low birth rate.
In terms of technology, Liu Jingqing pointed out that the first is silicon photonics technology, which replaces copper through light packaging to improve transmission efficiency. He estimates that Taiwan's silicon photonics technology can be exported by the end of this year and reach its peak in 2027.
Liu Jingqing emphasized that Taiwan was the first to ship silicon photonics technology. Advanced technology, patents and customers can at least make the packaging industry lead by 10 to 20 years, while improving the resilience of the semiconductor industry. The other technology is quantum and intelligent robots.
Wu Chengwen introduced that among the new ten major AI constructions, the National Science Council is responsible for the "science and technology budget", which includes intelligent robots. Different from industrial robots, the National Science Council is to help the robot industry combine AI and apply it to serve human functions.
Liu Jingqing also mentioned that the government is also committed to balanced regional development, such as the development of Tainan's high-tech industry in the Great Southern New Silicon Valley and the entry of TSMC in Kaohsiung; the central region is the precision industry, Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli continue to develop high-tech semiconductors, etc.
Liu Jingqing said that the Keelung River Valley also plans to build a cruise port and smart marine industry through the east-west shift of Keelung Port, and will continue to develop the southern part of the river valley from Neike, Nansoft, Xike to Xizhi Baochangkeng, and bring the biotech corridor to Yilan.
Liu Jingqing emphasized that the new ten major construction projects of AI include the construction of transportation, medical care, education, culture, water and electricity to drive the development of each region, making Taiwan an AI island and the core of global AI.
