Boosted by AI demand, Japanese wafer dicing machine giant DISCO saw its shipments increase last quarter, setting a new record high. Its stock price surged today, bucking the trend.

According to Yahoo Finance, as of 11:35 a.m. Taipei time on the 7th, DISCO's stock price rose 2.37%, significantly outperforming the broader market (TOPIX), which fell 0.49%.

DISCO released data after the market closed on the 4th, indicating that its non-consolidated (individual) shipments for the previous quarter (Q1 2025, April-June 2025) were 93 billion yen, an 8.5% increase year-on-year, marking the fifth quarter of growth in six quarters. Quarterly shipments surpassed the 90.8 billion yen achieved in Q3 2024 (October-December 2024), setting a new record high.

DISCO noted that shipments of precision machining equipment continued to maintain high levels, primarily driven by demand for generative AI applications. Consumable precision machining tools saw shipment growth driven by increased utilization rates of customer equipment.

In addition, DISCO's non-consolidated revenue increased significantly by 10.1% year-over-year to 75.4 billion yen last quarter.

DISCO only includes sales of products after they have been inspected and accepted. Therefore, revenue often deviates from actual market demand trends, while shipments are more closely correlated with market trends.

DISCO expects to announce its first-quarter 2025 financial results on July 17.

DISCO released financial data on April 17th, stating that its shipments, which reflect customer investment intentions, are expected to increase 1% year-over-year to 102 billion yen in the first quarter of fiscal 2025 (April-June 2025). This quarterly shipment figure is expected to reach its second-highest level on record (only trailing the 110.3 billion yen achieved in the October-December 2024 period). DISCO stated that its shipments are expected to remain high, primarily driven by demand for generative AI. However, it remains to be seen how tariffs will impact product demand and customer investment intentions.
