The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) estimates that global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales will reach a record high of US$125.5 billion in 2025, a 7.4% annual increase. Driven by the transformation of advanced logic, memory, and technology, semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales are expected to climb further to US$138.1 billion in 2026.
SEMI stated that the semiconductor industry is closely monitoring overall economic uncertainty, but demand for chip innovation driven by artificial intelligence (AI) is driving capacity expansion and investment in advanced production.
SEMI noted that wafer fab equipment, including wafer process equipment, fab facilities, and mask equipment, is expected to reach US$110.8 billion in 2025, a 6.2% annual increase, driven by sales growth in foundry and memory applications. This is higher than the estimated US$107.6 billion by the end of 2024.
Driven by the expansion of advanced logic and memory production capacity for artificial intelligence (AI) applications, SEMI estimates that wafer fab equipment sales are expected to increase by another 10.2% to $122.1 billion in 2026.
Of this total, foundry and logic equipment sales are expected to increase by 6.7% to $64.8 billion in 2025 and by another 6.6% to $69 billion in 2026.
In the memory sector, SEMI estimates that NAND Flash equipment sales will increase by 42.5% to $13.7 billion in 2025 and by another 9.7% to $15 billion in 2026. Dynamic random access memory (DRAM) equipment sales are expected to increase by 6.4% in 2025 and by another 12.1% in 2026.
With the significant increase in device architecture complexity and strong demand for AI performance and high-bandwidth memory (HBM), sales of semiconductor back-end test equipment and packaging equipment are expected to grow by 23.2% and 7.7%, respectively, in 2025, reaching US$9.3 billion and US$5.4 billion. In 2026, sales of test equipment and packaging equipment are expected to increase by another 5% and 15%, respectively.
SEMI indicates that by 2026, Taiwan, China, and South Korea will all be the top three regions in terms of semiconductor equipment sales. China's semiconductor equipment sales will decline from the peak of US$49.5 billion reached in 2024, but will still lead the world.
