(CNA reporter Chang Chien-chung, Taipei, October 28) Wang Hsuan-chih, manager of the Industrial Technology and International Division of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), stated today that Taiwan's semiconductor industry output is expected to reach NT$6.48 trillion this year, a 22% increase, and is projected to further exceed NT$7 trillion in 2026, reaching NT$7.13 trillion, a further 10% increase.

ITRI held a "Seminar on Industry Development Trends in 2026," with the semiconductor session taking place this afternoon. Wang Hsuan-chih pointed out that with the continued penetration of artificial intelligence (AI) applications, the demand for memory in data centers, edge computing, and computers is increasing. This year, the global semiconductor industry output is expected to reach US$727.7 billion, a 15.4% increase.

Wang Hsuan-chih said that with the recovery of markets such as mobile phones, and the continued growth of high-end applications such as AI and high-performance computing, the global semiconductor industry output is expected to further reach US$799.7 billion in 2026, a 9.9% increase.

Wang Hsuan-chih stated that Taiwan's semiconductor industry is benefiting from strong demand for AI data centers and peripheral components, driven by upgrades in edge AI hardware and the penetration of smart terminals. This year, its output value is expected to reach NT$6.48 trillion, a 22% increase.

Looking ahead to next year, Wang Hsuan-chih pointed out that Taiwan's semiconductor industry will continue to benefit from the growth of emerging applications such as AI, robotics, and smart glasses. The output value is expected to further exceed NT$7 trillion in 2026, reaching NT$7.13 trillion, a 10% increase compared to this year.

Among them, the IC design market will experience steady growth, with Taiwan's IC design industry output value expected to grow by 6.8% in 2026. With 3nm processes operating at full capacity and 2nm processes contributing, IC manufacturing output value is expected to grow by 12% in 2026. The IC packaging and testing industry is also expected to see stable growth of approximately 6.8% in 2026. (Editor: Lin Jiaxian) 1141028
