SEMI: Global semiconductor equipment sales hit a new high in 2024, with Taiwan ranking third

According to statistics from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI), global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales reached US$117.1 billion in 2024, a record high and an increase of 10%. Taiwan's sales fell to $16.6 billion, ranking third in the world, below China and South Korea.
SEMI said that thanks to the expansion of advanced processes, mature processes, advanced packaging and high-bandwidth memory (HBM), as well as a substantial increase in investment in China, the semiconductor equipment market will grow significantly in the first half of 2024, with sales of wafer process equipment increasing by 9% and other front-end equipment increasing by 5%.
As for back-end equipment, SEMI pointed out that driven by the increasing complexity of artificial intelligence and HBM manufacturing and the increasing demand, back-end equipment sales will grow strongly in 2024, with packaging equipment growing by 25% and testing equipment growing by 20%.
SEMI said that with China's active expansion of production and government support to strengthen local production, sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment will reach US$49.6 billion in 2024, ranking first in the world, an increase of 35%.
SEMI pointed out that as the demand for HBM increased, South Korea's semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales reached US$20.5 billion, ranking second in the world, an increase of 3%. Taiwan's exports fell to US$16.6 billion, ranking third in the world, a decrease of 16%.
Sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment in North America were $13.7 billion, up 14%, while sales in Europe fell to $4.9 billion, down 25%, and in Japan fell to $7.8 billion, down 1%.
